A Brief Review of the programme:

Delving deep into the subject of the Sangeetha and sahithya of Thyagaraja kritis, Shriram Kumar at the outset made it clear that in the case of great vaggeyakaras like Saint Thyagaraja, the sangeetha and sahithya are inseparable. They are made for each other.

He went on to explain the finer musical nuances of several keertanais and how we would have lost some of the important ragas, but for Thyagaraja's unique compositions which set the musical standard in these ragas. Delightful, enjoyable, thought provoking and illuminating lecture demonstration highlighted the multiple facets of Carnatic music in general and Thyagaraja kritis in particular.
