Amrutha started the concert with Sree ragam Varnam. Then moved on to the famous Jaganmohini kriti “Shobillu saptaswara”. I really love the chittaiswarams for this kriti. Further she moved on by singing kalpanaswarams ending it with “saptaswara shobillu”. Really got goosebumps when she took the words “Saptaswara shobillu”. LR was very good and gave replies to her way of singing. A detailed raga alapanai for Khamboji was the next. I was unable to guess to which kriti she would take for this ragam. Came up a surprise with Bhadrachala Ramadas kriti “Emmaiya Rama”. Hearing to such a beautiful kriti after a long time. Super oh super.
A short and sweet pantuvarali ragam alapanai came up. Kriti taken up was the 6th day Navarathri kriti of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal “Saroruhasana jaye”. This song has a beautiful jati which adds beauty to this kriti. Amrutha sang this song from her heart. Really enjoyed this kriti a lot. (In fact this was my request and she did sing it. It was a bday treat for me). A sweet Purandaradasa kriti “Madi Madi Madi” in the ragam behag.
The main ragam for the evening was thodi. Such a great alapanai. Kriti was that of Papanasam Sivan “Karthikeya gangeya” on Lord Muruga. Generally people don’t sing 2 charanams. She sang first and the second Charanam for this song. Took nereval at the line “Mal maruga shanmukha muruga guha”. LR was on the blast with his violin. Kalpanaswarams were also so wonderfully done for this song. When we have on stage Arjun Ganesh and Guruprasanna what more could we ask for, in the thaniavartanam. Both of them were encouraging each other and played so well. Plus had smiling faces on them. In fact all of them on the stage had such cute smiling faces. Awesome “kolalu nodutha” in raga yaman was taken up next. Then moved on to “Maya gopapala” in kapi ragam composition of KC Keshava Pillai. Wrapped up the concert with Hamsanandi thillana of Sri.Srimushnam Raja Rao and Mangalam.
Had a wonderful evening with great artists on stage. I also really admired Soumya who had a cute smiling face throughout the concert.
