Concert Review

This was a magnificient vocal concert presented by Vidwan Prasanna Venkatraman for Nadasurabhi at Indian Heritage Academy Hall on the 20th. To an overflowing hall full of audience, it was a winter treat of a special kind where a youngster could come up with such a brilliant performance.

Starting off the concert with a very popular but tough varnam 'Neranammi' in 'kaanada' ragam he set the standard of the concert at a high level right at the beginning itself. If the breezy 'Rama ninnu nammina' in 'Mohana' was charming, 'Saraguna palimpa' in 'kedara goula' was appealing aesthetically for the raga bhava expressed. The main attraction of the day was 'Ragam Thanam Pallavi', starting with raga 'Gowri Manohari', and passing through chain of 'Manoharis' like'Kamala Manohari, Deva Manohari, Saraswathi Manohari', etc.

His style is superb, his control over rhythm, outstanding. "For all the applause he is getting now, the credit undoubtedly should go to his guru Smt. T.R. Balamani of Mumbai, who taught him for 12 years initially and then only to the later Gurus with due regards to them", says his grand mother who accompanied him to the concert. He also sang songs of Subrahmanya Bharati, Purandaradasa and other composers as 'Tukdas' which greatly appealed to the audience. He has many many years of bright future ahead of him in the musical career. He was supported by all senior artist during his concert. Vidwan C.N. Chandrasekhar on the violin who is an All India Radio staff artist, Vidwan V. Krishna, who is also Professor of Mechanical Engineer on the mridangam and Vidwan M.A. Krishnamurthy, an A grade artist of AIR on the Ghatam, all of them came to the standard and provided an excellent support and added more essence to the concert.
