Date: 16th August Friday, 6:00 PM

Vid. Ashwin Anand - Veena
Vid. A. Radhesh - Mridangam
Vid. Dayanand Mohite - Ghatam

The opening of the series saw a brilliant Veena performance by Vidwan Ashwin Anand and party.  Senior Ghatam artist Vidwan Dayanada Mohite inaugurated the series by lighting the lamp and saying a few encouraging words about activities of Nadasurabhi. Opening the concert with the Sahana Varnam, Ashwin went on to play compositions in rakthi ragas like Athana, Dwijawanthi, Saranga and Brindavani. His main piece was RTP in Begada.  Raga and Thana presentation were grand and pallavi - 'Mahima teliya tarama ....', was set to khanda jhampa tala and was played perfectly with all ease. Ragamalika swarams were the added attraction to his already well presented pallavi.  Throughout the concert his rendering was most melodious, pleasant and soothing. There was absolute tranquility on the whole.  The percussion support was very well balanced and highly supportive.

Amruta Venkatesh - Vocal
B K Raghu - Violin
Tumkur Ravishankar - Mridangam

Amrutha Venkatesh, the rising star of Karnataka was brilliant in her presentation.  Endowed with a good voice, rich repertoire and high confidence level, her concert was, as usual, a great success. Most of the compositions she presented were by Karnataka composers.  The main piece was Varalakshmi, a master piece, in Gowrimanohari by Mysore Vasudevachar.  Kayausreegowri was appreciated by the seniors in the audience.  Ullavaru.., a vachana by Basavanna was a good addition, since Shivasharanas' Vachanas hardly find any place in present day concerts.  On the whole Amrutha's concert was pleasing, majestic and instantly she was everybody's pet for presenting a concert of such a high calibre at such an young age.  Needless to say, BK Raghu and Tumkur Ravishankar were at their best.

RK Padmanabha - Vocal
CN Chandrasekhar - Violin
C Cheluvaraju - Mridangam
ASN Swamy - Khanjira

Ganakalabhushana Vidwan RK Padmanabha's was a fitting finale to the three day grand programme. He started very well with two beautiful songs on 'Devis'. The next was in Poorvikalyani and the song was going to be a surprise till he finished the elaborate ragaalapana. The song was his own composition in 'Tamil' ,"Nadasurabhi- kannada naadu!  This was composed in consultatioin with some tamil knowing elders and Vidwan RKP had worked hard for this beautiful presentation.  He included many kannada songs in the three hour concert.  The main piece was an RTP in Bhairavi set to a most challenging tala - ekadasha jhampa in 2 kales, which was his own innovation.  Initially, the 'Tanam' was also made very interesting by incorporating the different varieties of thanams like 'gaja', 'ashwa'. 'shanka', 'rudra', etc. With a ragamalika swara prasthara in all 5 ghana ragas, he left the proceedings for tani avartanam. A ragamalikai and mangalam in kannada  rounded off the concert.  The accompanying artists did well to bring out the best effect.
