An experience of the sangita and sahitya of the saint’s compositions


Delving deep into the subject of the Sangeetha and sahithya of Thyagaraja kritis, Shriram Kumar at the outset made it clear that in the case of great vaggeyakaras like Saint Thyagaraja, the sangeetha and sahithya are inseparable. They are made for each other.


He went on to explain the finer musical nuances of several keertanais and how we would have lost some of the important ragas, but for Thyagaraja's unique compositions which set the musical standard in these ragas. Delightful, enjoyable, thought provoking and illuminating lecture demonstration highlighted the multiple facets of Carnatic music in general and Thyagaraja kritis in particular.


Sri.Shriramkumar is from Rudrapatnam, Karnataka’s crucible of Carnatic Music, which has given to the world, generations of great musicians including Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr.R.K.Srikantan. Trained both in violin and vocal music by renowned artists like Sri.V.V.Subrahmanyam and Sri.D.K.Jayaraman, Sriramkumar has been a prominent figure in the Carnatic music stage for over three decades. He has traveled all over the world to accompany senior artists on violin. He has several awards and titles to his credit.



With the breadth and depth of knowledge, Sri.Shriramkumar now presents lecture- demonstrations on various specialized topics, like the current one in Nadasurabhi.


Senior artists from Bangalore Smt.Nalina Mohan and Sri. Srinivas will be accompanying him in this programme.
